After playing 13 games in 2008, Armitage struggled for opportunities in 2009 with the Saints on-ballers in form and largely injury-free. The inside midfielder starred for Sandringham in the VFL, finishing second in the best and fairest and broke into the St Kilda side in round 19, making an instant impression and snaring three Brownlow votes. He played two more games, averaging 16 touches, laying 26 tackles and kicking three goals, before losing his spot and later being named an emergency for the Grand Final. Now is the time for Armitage to become a first-team regular.
