Goddard took the step up to join the AFL’s elite in 2009, dominating as a rebounding defender or on the ball. The X-factor in St Kilda’s side, he can also do a job up forward, as he proved with a four-goal haul against West Coast in round three. A clinical user of the ball, he averaged almost 28 disposals, won his first All-Australian selection and was just a handful of votes behind Nick Riewoldt in the best and fairest. Was in the running for best afield in the Grand Final before a heavy knock, then a broken collarbone, curtailed his influence. Signed until the end of the 2012 season.
