Sacred Heart Mission

Every day hundreds of people who are homeless or living in poverty, come to the Sacred Heart Mission (SHM) in St Kilda seeking food, shelter, care and support. But that’s just the beginning. SHM works with people to overcome challenging issues and reconnect them with the community. Sometimes this can take years, but the Mission is there each step of the way.

Our services include a free, hot lunch to 600 people every day of the year, housing assistance, counselling, food parcels, emergency financial support and drug and alcohol support. The Mission also operates a clinic, sports and recreation program, mental health unit, three aged care hostels, crisis accommodation for women, three Op shops and a 64-bed rooming house.  But we need your support. TREVOR BARKER FOUNDATION SUPPORTING CHALLENGE

The Trevor Barker Foundation was established to continue the memory and inspirational work of a remarkable man.

Trevor Barker was an inspiring player for the St Kilda Football Club for over 14 seasons. He was St Kilda’s Best & Fairest player twice and represented his State seven times.

Trevor was always positive, with a great sense of humour and provided hope, gave strength and offered encouragement to so many people in need. Sadly, Trevor passed away from cancer in April 1996.

The Trevor Barker Foundation was established in 1997 for the purpose of supporting the work of the Challenge Foundation – supporting kids with cancer and has been supported by St Kilda Football Club ever since.

The Foundation runs annual sports camps, in various locations for children living with cancer and other life-threatening blood disorders and their siblings. A property was also purchased in Torquay, Trevor Barker House that provides free holiday accommodation for families all year round, offering some quality time out during treatment.

THE BALLS4LIFE FOUNDATION

The Balls4Life Foundation is a registered charity given the task of raising awareness and funding for men’s health issues. A not-for-profit organisation, it gives net proceeds to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia for support services of the PCFA.  A simple concept whereby winning teams from each round would sign actual match balls which would be then be made available for public auction via www.balls4life.com.au

AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou has been extremely supportive to date and all 18 clubs are on board.  In 2011 The Balls4Life Foundation raised much need funds and awareness for The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia which well exceeded all expectations.
Balls4Life is in partnership with the AFL, all 18 AFL Football Clubs, the AFL Players association, Cricket Australia’s Cricket Cares Community Action Program as well as media, advertising and supporting partners.

It is important for men – fathers, husbands, brothers, uncles and individuals to recognise the importance of prostate health. If you won’t get your prostate checked for your own good, get it done for your wife, your children or your family.

For more information on how you can help visit www.balls4life.com.au and register.  Place a bid on your teams signed match ball and support men’s health in the process.  Don’t forget to follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Balls4life
