Open letter in support of Marriage Equality (AME)

www.australianmarriageequality.org/

We, St Kilda Football Club, write to express our support for marriage equality.

As a club, we believe everyone should feel welcome, included and equal. This belief is at the heart of our How I Want To Be spirit and it’s key to our values as an organisation. We want to help connect people and communities by wrapping football in the unique spirit of St Kilda.

We recognise the right of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) employees, volunteers, clients and customers to live and work free of prejudice and discrimination. This includes the right to marry the partner of their choice.

We fervently believe in equality amongst people in all walks of life – in employment, education, sport and community involvement.  Equality improves workplaces, service delivery and society in general by allowing everyone to be treated with equal respect and feel included. We therefore support equality being extended to the sanctity of marriage.

Sports Education Development Australia (SEDA)

To engage students in their education the learning environment needs to address their learning style, be relevant to their interests and delivered in context.

Students learn in many different ways and have different learning styles such as auditory, visual, social and learning 'by doing.' For some students learning in a 'hands-on' environment connects the classroom to the real world.

The delivery of quality 'hands-on' education is the focus at SEDA.

With our education partners, SEDA creates an environment that engages students with their learning. Students at SEDA complete year 11 and 12 and gain nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications from Certificate II to Diploma.

Over 1,600 students are currently completing their secondary studies with SEDA across three states.

SEDA delivers quality learning outcomes for students because it captures their passion and builds a full and engaging curriculum into the learning experience. Students remain engaged because they learn by doing, are connected to real world experiences and are included in an industry that they are passionate about.

Students achieve outcomes for their future through a broad range of subjects and industry experiences, while also developing key life and employability skills. The results we see are mature, resilient and very capable young men and women graduating from SEDA, empowered with a range of choices for further education or employment.

The Bloody Big Swim

The Bloody Big Swim is a complex event involving many people, including paddlers, boat captains and supporters. The Organising Committee is aware it faces the crucial challege of maintaining the high level of community participation while ensuring the safety of every person involved - and this means hundreds of people.

Since we started in 2004 there has been a significant increase in the number of elite swimmers which is starting to give the Bloody Big Swim international profile. This is to be encouraged but not to the detriment of local participants and amateur participants from all around Australia.

The event has been modeled on several existing very successful Marathon swims, including the Rottnest Island Channel Swim which has grown to be extremely popular.

The St Kilda Football Club is proud to be partnering with the Bloody Big Swim.
