Lance Collard

Three disposals, two kicks, one tackle

Lance started really well with lots of pressure, stayed involved and was really dangerous as a small forward, even though it didn’t eventuate to a high impact game. We’re going to look to move him around a bit more so he can get up an involved around the ball going forward.

Brad Crouch

14 disposals, five kicks, two clearances

Brad started really strongly, had some good clearances for us and got the ball going our way. He was looking good, communicating well and working hard. His knee was causing him a bit of trouble so came off at half-time.

Dan Butler

Eight disposals, eight tackles, one goal

Eight tackles as a high forward shows great work rate and high intent. Didn’t have heaps of the ball, but it was good to see Dan out there with speed, aggression and leading well which is always expected. He’s in a good spot at the moment and we’re happy he got through unscathed.

Isaac Keeler

16 disposals, 11 kicks, two tackles

Keels is building nicely. He’s had a really good focus over the past couple weeks, specifically the physicality in the aerial content and disrupting the opposition. He had a role on Ash Johnson, who he kept relatively quiet, so Keels is in a really strong position to launch into some team defence going forward.

Angus Hastie

17 disposals, 11 kicks and one goal

Angus played on the wing for the four quarters. He’s a running machine, particularly in the second half he showed some really good ability to take on the tackle and step through the opposition and open the game up for us. It was a good step forward for him as a first-year and something for us to work with on the wing.

Arie Schoenmaker

33 disposals, 29 kicks, 13 marks

Arie played first half as a half-back and second half as an inside mid. He was potent for us, he had eight inside-50s and six rebound-50s so was working at both ends of the ground. Some good opportunity for the defensive side of things to ramp up, but when he has the ball in his hands he can do some really good things with it.

Hugo Garcia

14 tackles, 16 disposals, 2 clearances

Hugo worked hard as an inside mid. The stats aren’t high, but he had 14 tackles and 12 out of 16 contested possessions. He worked hard content to contest and is another first-year player who’s learning going to the ball vs staying to defend. He’s got the basis of a good midfielder and had a nice goal which is good to celebrate.

Tom Campbell

36 hit-outs, 22 disposals, 16 kicks

It was TC’s first full game in a whilst after sitting out the practise match due to illness, but he performed admirably on the weekend. Competed strongly in the air, he had 36 hit-outs but we lost clearances, so we need to make sure we’re on the same page with our inside mids. That’s the expectation of him as a leader is to communicate strongly exactly what we want.

Olli Hotton

10 disposals, six kicks, three tackles

Olli started as a midfielder in the first half then with the move of Arie into the mids, Olli went to half-back where he looked quite good. He’s had experience in that backline, so it was good to get him in different positions and make him adjust to the game on the fly.

Angus McLennan

16 disposals, 13 kicks, seven marks

We’re really pleased with Angus’ game. He had five intercept marks, he played our system really well and he’s getting more comfortable with the ball in his hands. There’s always room for improvement of leadership and communication around stoppages but he had a solid game which was good to start the season off with.

Max Heath

20 hit-outs, 12 disposals, one goal

Moose had a tale of two halves, as his second majorly improved from the first in terms of his ability to get to strong spots and engage his opposition. He competed strongly in the end. There’s a good basis to work from, just got to get going a little bit quicker.

Anthony Caminiti

Seven disposals, two goals, two tackles

Caminiti started really strong for us. First quarter he was best-on-ground, three shots on goal and was looking to tear the game apart. The ball movement dried up so we just need to keep imploring him to finish off his defensive work when the attack isn’t there.

Darby Hipwell

19 disposals, 10 kicks, seven tackles

First game as co-captain, he was a real worker. Contest to contest he was running strong and was tough around the ball. He’s got some good learnings off Lenny Hayes this week regarding stoppage body work and using his strengths vs opponents which will be a big focus for him.

Hugo Hall-Kahan

13 disposals, 10 kicks, two tackles

Hugo played a solid game as a high half-forward, looked really lively early on. John Noble was tearing it up, so we sent Hugo to him with a diligent role which he did, keeping him to 10 disposals in the second half, with a few of those being kick-ins. Really diligent from a vice-captain to be able to do that.

Tarkyn O'Leary

12 disposals, 11 kicks, three tackles

Tarkyn had a better game this week in terms of spending time over the ball and driving his legs. As a smaller player, he’s got to use that to his strength, stay low and power out of contests. He runs really hard for it so if we can continue getting the right patterns of where he needs to run, he will continue being a great player for us.

Vincent Zagari

12 disposals, eight kicks, three clearances

It wasn’t a day for great ball movement, but he’s a good winger who, when our team system of attack and defence picks up, is going to benefit strongly. A good first-up game that I’ll know he’ll be looking to improve on.
