St Kilda has significantly improved its draft position.

St Kilda has completed a trade with Hawthorn to further strengthen its position in the 2013 NAB AFL National Draft.

The Saints have secured a first round selection (pick 19) from the Hawks in exchange for its second round pick (24 overall) and its fourth-round pick (59 overall).

The Hawks had recently received pick 19 as compensation for Lance Franklin joining the Sydney Swans via free agency.

This exchange of picks is separate to the previous deal with Hawthorn that brought Shane Savage and pick 18 to the Saints in exchange for Ben McEvoy.

St Kilda now has a strong position in the upcoming draft with three first round selections - picks 3, 18, 19 - plus pick 25 in the second round.

"Securing three selections inside the top 20 at this year's AFL National Draft has been a key pillar of our list management strategy so to be able to achieve this position for the first time since 2001 provides a valuable platform for the club to continue its list transition," said St Kilda Head of Football, Chris Pelchen.
