VFL MATCH REPORT: Key forwards dominant in Zebras win

Tom Hickey
He played predominantly in the ruck. His work around the ground was also very good with his marking a feature of his game on the weekend. Tom was one of our better players and looked good in the ruck contest too.

Trent Dennis-Lane
TDL was unlucky on the day because he got to plenty of front and square positions, but the ball didn’t come to him. It was pleasing to see him make the most of his opportunities too, kicking three goals as a small forward.

Tom Lee
He had a lot of the ball and finished with 17 possessions. It was a really good return for a target player and demonstrated how much his work-rate has improved as the season has gone on. He chased and what we call emptied out as he needed to, plus he kicked four goals from nine marks. It was a promising game from Tommy across the board.

Sam Dunell
You know what you’re going to get with Sammy. He has probably averaged the 16 possessions that he got again on the weekend. Unfortunately he missed a couple of set shots but took five marks and linked up really well all day.

Brodie Murdoch
Brodie only has 12 touches, but it was his physicality – he laid seven tackles – that was really good. We’d just like to see him getting more of the ball because he played most of the game on the wing, with a bit of time up forward and on the ball too. He’s extremely strong so I’m sure he could take a few more marks too. We’ll work on it this week.

Dylan Roberton
Dylan probably played his best game for a long time. We’ve been critical of Robbo in the past for not having the defensive pressure we wanted, but he had a few tackles and really cracked in on Sunday. It was great to see. His ball use was also a lot better and covered the ground really well.

Tom Curren
Tommy had 20 possessions and a lot of them were in close and under pressure. He played on the ball and also spent some time in the forward line, but didn’t impact the scoreboard. He’s capable of kicking goals so we’d like him to do that for us over the next few weeks.

Arryn Siposs
Sippa started forward but then went back down to half-back and looked really good in defence. He often let his man go up in to the junk and dropped back to support the other defenders – it was a tactic that worked really well for him.
Josh Bruce
Brucey had a solid game. He played down back and then we chucked him forward late and he kicked a goal.

Josh Saunders
Josh had 20 touches and played a similar role to Brodie Murdoch on the wing and a little bit forward. He also had a little bit of a stint on the ball and he probably didn’t use his pace as well as he has done in previous weeks.

Adam Schneider
Schneids picked up his 25 touches and was an excellent contributor in all aspects of the game. That’s the second week in a row he’s got plenty of the ball and it was pleasing to see him run out the match in the midfield.

Nathan Wright
Wrighty had a quiet day across half-back, so we gave him a job to do on one of the opposition’s key players and he did this pretty well. It was only his second game back from injury so I’m sure he will be better for the run, we know that.

Jason Holmes
I watch Holmesy quite closely and code his game every week, and again he was quite dominant with his tap work. We pushed him forward late and isolated him and he had two shots on goals – one didn’t make the distance and the other one hit the post.

Spencer White
Whitey was up and about. He could have kicked eight but instead he kicked three. This is the frustrating part about Spencer, because he’s so talented and he gets himself in the right spots, but sometimes just can’t finish the job. His last fortnight has been really good so the challenge for him is to now back it up against a good side in Port Melbourne this weekend.

Farren Ray
Faz was tremendous with his attitude after he came back from the senior team. He contributed in all areas and finished with six tackles and 25 touches. This was even more impressive because he was tagged for the entire day – so he was forced to work hard to get every possession.
