The world stage is coming to Seaford, with Linen House Centre hosting New Zealand and China in next month’s International Cup.

The match hosted by Frankston City Council in conjunction with the Saints, will be held on Wednesday, August 13 and will be the first International Cup game to be played outside of Royal Park.

Footy fans will get a taste of cultures from around the world during the tournament, with teams from 18 different countries comprising of amateurs who must be nationals of the country they represent.

AFL Head of Development Grant Williams said the International Cup celebrates the passion those outside of Australia have for the game.

“There are 100,000 international participants throughout the world who share our love of Australian football,” he said.

“IC14 will bring together the best 900 players from 18 countries. I look forward to the colour and excitement that the carnival will bring.”

Free entry and BBQ will be provided for the match, which will feature St Kilda’s own International Scholarship holder, Joe Baker-Thomas who will be representing his native New Zealand.

The International Cup is played every three years with most games held in Royal Park in Parkville and for the first time a community round will be played, with International Cup games to be held as curtain-raisers to suburban, amateur and country matches.
