Tom Simpkin

Tom had a really good game. He played on Scott Clouston who was Williamstown’s number one forward and held him to one goal. Clouston is quite athletic and has a good mark – I know this because I coached him a few years ago – and Tommy did the job on him.

Trent Dennis-Lane
Trent didn’t get much of the ball but did have four shots on goal and applied some excellent defensive pressure in the forward half. When Sam Dunell went back he became the focal target and competed well, creating three scoring shots from his tackling.

Darren Minchington
He had a good game and was again excellent in the clinches. Darren is in good form at the moment and he’s doing extra sessions during the week as well. After half-time he wasn’t quite as prolific but on the whole we were very pleased with Minchy’s output.

Dylan Roberton
Dylan was good without being outstanding. He had good presence in defence with his tackling and spoiling, and also offered quite a bit on the rebound.

Sam Dunell
Sam started forward but then we got him behind the ball and he controlled the game from back there. He took a lot of marks, read the play beautifully and repelled from defence. For these reasons I think he was our best player on the day.

Jason Holmes
Holmesy was pretty good in the ruck but only had the four handballs. We pushed him forward late but unfortunately the ball didn’t get down there because Williamstown were dominating. The thing we are working on most at the moment is Holmesy’s timing when the ball is in the air. He’s improved in this area but I’m sure he will benefit greatly from another summer of ball-work.

Lewis Pierce

Lewis had a bit more of the ball than Holmesy this week but the best aspect of his game was his willingness to cover the ground and spread like a midfielder. He ended up running 14 kilometres and is improving every week. Lewis’ endeavour is excellent – he tackles, chases and does all the team things.

Josh Saunders
Josh spent most of the game on the ball and a little bit on the wing and forward. He had a pretty decent match with 11 touches in the third quarter, but dropped away a bit in the last like most of the blokes. The fact he finished with 28 touches shows how prolific he was in the first three terms.
