ADELAIDE defeated St Kilda by 79 points on Sunday in what was Lenny Hayes' and Ben Rutten's final AFL games.

The two teams looked evenly matched in the early passages, but the Crows kicked away in the second term, booting eight unanswered goals to effectively put the result beyond doubt.

Sam Fisher and Jack Steven were the Saints two best players, while Jack Newnes and David Armitage also held their own.

Armitage, who has enjoyed a superb last two months, was also St Kilda's solitary multiple goal-kicker.

But aside from the end result, the story of the day undoubtedly revolved around retiring champion Lenny Hayes, who broke Jude Bolton's tackling record of 1490 tackles and finished with 13 tackles for the afternoon and 1496 for his career.

Spencer White presented strongly in his second game, although for much of the afternoon he was starved of opportunities.

It was a similar tale for Nick Riewoldt, who was held goalless by Daniel Talia but had an influence further afield.

Brodie Murdoch played the best quarter of his short career after coming on as the sub at half-time, while fellow youngster Seb Ross did some clever things around the ground.
