Jarryn Geary
7 games, 16.4 disposals
Jarryn had a frustrating year due to injury, but when he was out there he made us a better side. He started in the middle in the first couple of games and then moved down back and was a really important player for us in the back six. He was really professional with his rehabilitation alongside Eli Templeton and showed great leadership with the rest of the defensive group.

Shane Savage14 games, 18 disposals
Shane started through the midfield and it wasn’t quite working for him. He went back to the VFL and played at half-back, before coming back up and doing really well for us in that running defender role. He still has to work on his defensive aspects, but when he got the ball in his hands, he made us a better side.

Dylan Roberton7 games
Dylan probably didn’t reach the heights of 2013 after an ankle operation. He did improve as the year progressed however, and ended up playing seven games. He’s a very smart player and hopefully another summer on the track without any ankle issues will set him up for a big 2015.

Sam Fisher7 games, 18 disposals, 7.1 marks
Sam had a frustrating season in terms of injury but when he got up and going he was great for us. He reads the game really well and he provides great direction to his fellow defenders.

James Gwilt17 games, 16.2 disposals, 6.4 marks
James had a good year. He beat his opponent more often than not and kicked the ball really well coming out of defence. Unfortunately, with the direction the club is heading, we have let him go. He still has good footy in him if he gets the opportunity.

Tom Simpkin5 games
Tom had limited opportunities at senior level and got thrown forward there for a bit while we were looking for another tall option. His form over the last eight weeks, particularly at VFL level, has been exceptional. Tom is still improving and rarely gets beaten. Hopefully he can take his opportunities next year and cement a spot in the senior team.
22 games, 16.6 disposals, 6.2 marks
Sean had an outstanding year. He led the AFL for marking opposition kicks and is as courageous as they come. He would do anything for the side.

Luke Delaney
22 games
Luke has been a real positive for the club and has had an outstanding year playing on the opposition’s best forwards. Late in the year he had a couple of quieter games but then finished strongly on Taylor Walker. He should be really proud of the way he’s gone about it this season.

Jimmy Webster11 games, 15 disposals
Jimmy was another defender that got struck down with injury. He’s a really exciting talent with his kicking and offensive run, but he also showed that he could lockdown on his opponent. He still has plenty of room to develop but he’s an exciting prospect for us off the half-back line.

Nathan Wright7 games
Nathan did well. He started the year playing on the dangerous small forwards and then broke his leg which was unfortunate. He trained really hard to get back and finished the year in the senior team. His game against Richmond showed what he can do and he will have some big challenges throughout his career, but he’s already shown he’s up to it.

Blake Acres3 games
It’s been a tough year for Blake because he just hasn’t been able to get his body right. When he played he showed that he possesses some really good attributes: He’s 6 foot 2, runs really well, and can mark the ball in the contest. We’re looking forward to him getting out and getting his body right over the summer leading into next season.

Sam Gilbert6 games
Sam was unlucky this year. He is a great leader amongst the backline and he forced his way back into the team after a long injury, surprising everyone. His attitude during the long layoff was outstanding and really set the example for the rest of the injured guys. Sam reads the game really well and supports his fellow defenders by rolling off.

Cameron Shenton13 games, 14 disposals
Cameron was another one that was a real positive for us this year. He started as a rookie in the VFL and due to a couple of injuries and some really strong form, he fought his way into the senior team. He showed he can play at AFL level because he’s strong over the ball, dashing, and makes good decisions. He just needs to keep working on his fitness over the summer. There is no doubt that Shents could be an exciting prospect for the club in the future.
