St Kilda Football Club congratulates club historian Russell Holmesby who was last night inducted as a life member to the Australian Football Media Association.

Holmesby was one of four inductees along with Channel 9 news presenter Tony Jones, Channel 10 news presenter Stephen Quartermain and South Australian journalist Ashley Porter.

For the past 12 years, Holmesby has been the editor of Inside Football magazine, having also written for the Sunday Herald Sun and The Australian.

Along with Jules Feldmann, Holmesby co-wrote The Point Of It All – the story of St Kilda Football Club, which was launched in 1992.

He has since written two other books on the club - Heroes With Haloes, St Kilda’s 100 Greatest and Strength Through Loyalty, Saints at Moorabbin and Beyond.

Along with fellow football journalist Jim Main, Holmesby wrote the Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers which has had 10 editions since it was first published in 1992. Holmesby and Main also wrote Carlton: the 100 Greatest and This Football Century.

Holmesby was the long-time editor and chief writer of the club’s Saint magazine and is an occasional contributor to saints.com.au.

He was named a life member of St Kilda in 2004.
