Forward line coach Aaron Hamill evaluates the performance of his goalkickers during the 2014 season.

Daniel Markworth
Daniel had a frustrating year. He missed a large chunk of the season with a hamstring injury, but he’s pretty much over that now and going along well ahead of the pre-season.

Rhys Stanley
19 games, 6.4 marks
Rhys showed some good signs against Essendon and Fremantle, especially with his marking and pinch-hitting ruck work. He’s a mobile forward with good pace, good endurance, and when he combined with Nick Riewoldt and Josh Bruce, we looked to have a pretty decent forward-line structure.

Brodie Murdoch
9 games

Brodie was very good in round 23 against Adelaide when he came on as the sub and immediately had an influence. That is the footy we want to see from Brodie because he’s an exceptionally hard worker who formed really good habits from a young age. We’re really confident that he can be a big part of our forward line in the near future.

Spencer White
2 games
Spencer debuted in round 22 which was great to see. He’s a second-year full-forward, which is a difficult position to play, but he’s learning and coming along well. Hopefully he has a really good taste of it now so we’d like to think that the 2014/15 pre-season will be a really significant one for him as he increases his aerobic capacity. His defensive side of the game is a heavy focus for us and him.

Eli Templeton
6 games
Eli is a very competent player and was excellent in his handful of games for us earlier this season. He’s an outstanding runner and a hard-worker who loves to compete. Hopefully he gets a good run at it with no injuries because we see him being a significant part of our journey moving forward.

Tom Lee
3 games
Tom has had some significant shoulder issues over the journey, so he knows the work that lies ahead of him. He’s got an opportunity to play forward for us so we’re hoping he comes back in fantastic shape. He’s clearly restricted a little bit at the moment but we hope we a solid summer on the track, he’ll have a really good base of fitness heading into 2015.

Trent Dennis-Lane
1 game
Trent played VFL most of the year. His leadership and input at that level was outstanding for the younger players and his cleverness around goal was also important.

Arryn Siposs
3 games
Arryn had shoulder surgery so he’s very much in that Tom Lee bracket, where he has to perform and get that base. Once he has that base of fitness and the right work ethic to compete, he will give himself every opportunity to compete. It’s a big pre-season for Arryn and there will be an opportunity for him if he gets his body right.

Jack Billings
16 games, 14.6 disposals average, 14 goals
Jack is going well. He suffered a hamstring injury late in the season but we were impressed with his output on the whole this year.  Probably his best game was against West Coast when he kicked three goals in the first quarter and won the Rising Star nomination. Clearly we know how talented Jack is. His decision making and ball use is elite. We’re really looking forward to watching him improve with his first full pre-season.

Jack Billings is sure to spend more time in the midfield in 2015.

Josh Bruce
10 games
Josh had a solid first year at out footy club. He was very good down back and then he played four games as a forward and was outstanding in my book. His defensive pressure was very good and his ability to compete and give a contest was equally impressive.

Adam Schneider
13 games
We know Adam is an elite decision maker, has elite skills and is a seasoned campaigner. He was excellent this year with the ball and played a significant leadership role with some of the younger players to. He’s very good at directing traffic.

Beau Maister
4 games
Beau has retired but he was a warrior for our forward line earlier this year before injury got him. Beau set the scene many times and crashed packs and was a valuable member.

Darren Minchington
3 games
Darren stepped up this year. He got his body right and as a result he played significant minutes at VFL level and showed that he’s a class above at that level. He’s got good skills and knows where the goals are.

Josh Saunders
10 games
Josh played some good roles at AFL level and finished the year in the VFL. Josh is a really quick outside running player and he’s developing his game. We can see some significant improvements in Josh’s game and look forward to him progressing.

Sam Dunell
3 games
Sam has been very good at VFL level all year and played three senior matches as well. He’s been a pro in how he goes about things and his preparation is elite.

Nick Riewoldt
22 games, 49 goals, 1st in AFL for total marks
Clearly winning the best and fairest shows what kind of year Nick had. He played a little bit higher this year which allowed some of the younger forwards to play closer to goal. His number have been very consistent over a long period of time and his leadership was again first class over the course of the season. Nick’s composure and decision making with the footy was a standout for me, as was his ball use via foot.
