St Kilda Football Club today welcomed a funding announcement from Premier Denis Napthine to return the Club to the Junction Oval precinct if re-elected.

President Peter Summers, coach Alan Richardson and CEO Matt Finnis attended the announcement this morning.

“Saints supporters will be rapt at the prospect of their club reconnecting with its heartland in St Kilda,” Mr Summers said.

“Junction Oval is the Saints’ spiritual home and the club played there for more than 90 years - it’s an important part of our history.

“We believe an exciting opportunity exists to create an iconic sporting hub which plays host to both elite and community sport all year round.

“Regardless of any possible move, St Kilda remains committed to having a presence in the Frankston and Bayside area which has long been a source of significant club support and champion Saints players including Harvey, Loewe and Burke.”

The planned project would see Cricket Victoria and St Kilda jointly developing state of the art training facilities at the precinct, an arrangement Alan Richardson said would provide opportunities for both organisations.

“The prospect of being at a new sporting hub where we can collaborate with cricket on high-performance is exciting for the Club,” Richardson said.
