Throughout 2015 Adrienne Gyori will be providing  captivating insights from a fans perspective.

The 2015 AFL season is fast approaching and as a St Kilda fan every game will be an opportunity to watch our emerging team take another step forward in its development. Not only are we looking for our beloved Saints to get some wins, but there are also some exciting milestones and games to get every St Kilda diehard supporter pumped.

After a rousing and fruitful draft in 2014, we now have many new faces at the club ready and we’re raring to tackle the season head on. I know I’m not alone when I say I look forward to seeing Paddy McCartin and Hugh Goddard’s first game.

I first met Paddy McCartin in the lobby of our hotel up in the Gold Coast during my experience as a Digital Rookie. It was the day before the AFL Draft, and not knowing if he was to be our no.1 draft pick or not, I got a sneaky selfie with him and had a quick chat about his nerves and thoughts on the draft selection. A friendly, down to earth character, I quickly decided I would be happy for Paddy to be a part of our team.

I met Hugh the day after the Draft, and interviewed the two new boys who were sporting the red, black and white. I learnt that they are fun, kind and charismatic gentlemen who are ready to give everything they have to the club. I can’t wait to see them grace the field and show us their talents.

In addition to Paddy and Hugh, we have got a raft of up-and-coming stars that have already shown us glimpses of their ability. Luke Dunstan is a future leader in the mould of Lenny Hayes, Jack Billings is class personified and Eli Templeton is a pocket rocket ready to explode on the AFL scene after a broken arm in 2014.

I’m also very excited to see the players head out on the field in their new Dare Iced Coffee embellished guernseys!

Round one is going to be a thriller. We have never lost to GWS (touch wood) and there’s nothing better that feeling of the first game back. Smelling the recently mowed grass at Etihad Stadium, hearing the players crunch into each other, joining in the loud scream of “BALL!”, you don’t realise how much you miss it until you go to your first game of the season.

St Kilda’s Anzac Day Centenary clash against Carlton in round four will be a great excuse for a holiday in picturesque New Zealand. As the day marks the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings, not only is it a chance to pay respects to those that served, but it will also be the third time our team heads across the Tasman to play on this special occasion.

Two of my favourite Saints have huge milestones this year. Assuming they don’t miss a game,  Round 18 will be Leigh Montagna’s 250th match, while Nick Riewoldt will don the red, white and black for the 300th time the following weekend against Fremantle.

I remember last year’s surprise win against the Dockers when I was overseas in Europe at the time. I looked online in my Prague hotel and read on the Saints website that we had won! I couldn’t believe it!

Zone restrictions meant I couldn’t watch it online overseas, but as soon as I got home a few weeks later I watched a replay of an immensely satisfying game. Let’s hope this year is no different!

This was one of the best moments of the 2014 season, onya Billy!

Just four Saints have reached the magical 300-game milestone: Robert Harvey, Stewart Loewe, Nathan Burke and Barry Breen and Rooey certainly deserves to be ranked amongst these St Kilda greats.

Both Rooey and Joey have been absolute stars for our club over many years. I have grown up with these two being strong leaders and incredible players for St Kilda.

There is a lot to look forward to in 2015, and everyone should get on board and come out to support our boys in what will be a Saintsational year of footy!

Go Saints!
