ST KILDA has named its extended squad for Sunday’s round five clash against Essendon.

Maverick Weller returns to the team, while Daniel McKenzie is a chance to debut following a string of impressive VFL performances.

Jimmy Webster, Tom Hickey and Blake Acres have also been named on the seven-man interchange bench that will be trimmed to four on Friday evening.

Nathan Wright and Ahmed Saad have been omitted, while Leigh Montagna and Nick Riewoldt will spend another week on the sidelines with knee and calf complaints respectively.

Weller was the leading tackler in the AFL after the first three rounds, before a calf strain ruled him out of last Saturday’s match against Carlton.

Alan Richardson suggested the 23-year-old’s return will give a significant boost to St Kilda’s on-ball brigade.

Mav was in really good form before he injured himself,” Richardson told SAINTS.com.au.

“He is one of our leaders and has pulled up really well after two strong training sessions this week. He’s ready to go after a one week layoff and we’re looking forward to having him back.”

Adam Schneider, Tom Curren and Cam Shenton have also been named on the extended interchange bench.
