SANDRINGHAM vs CASEY SCORPIONS

Where: Casey Fields

When: Saturday, May 9

Time: Midday

Television: Channel 7 (live broadcast)

Last week:

Sandringham rallied late against the Northern Blues at home last week, with a poor conversion rate of 3.11 in the last quarter costing them victory and a six-point loss.

Comparatively, the Melbourne-aligned Casey Scorpions were impressive in their 33-point win over Essendon at Windy Hill.

Players to watch:

Sandringham – Jason Holmes

Holmes played as the Zebras’ sole ruckman last week and impressed many in what St Kilda Development Coach and Sandringham Coach Paul Hudson described as “his best all-round performance so far”. If Holmes can back up his form, that will go a long way to the Zebras’ causing an upset win.

Casey Scorpions – Max Gawn

The Melbourne-listed Gawn (3 goals, 11 marks, 27 hit outs) played a big role in last week’s win over Essendon and will play an influential part in Saturday’s clash. Standing at 208cm and 111kg, Gawn presents a difficult match up and one the Zebras will look to shut down.

Conditions:

Casey Fields is wide with plenty of space on the wings but as a shorter ground, the football can swing from one end to the other very quickly. The weather forecast looks overcast, with showers expected and a high of just 17 degrees.
