Sandringham senior coach and St Kilda development coach Paul Hudson runs a ruler over the individual performance of the Saints-listed players following Saturday's win over Casey Scorpions.

MATCH REPORT: Zebras topple Casey

Tom Curren

Tom was our highest possession winner. He ran hard, competed all day, and finished with 33 disposals. He was also our highest inside 50 player with seven.

Josh Saunders

Josh was playing a wing and small forward role for us. He had 23 touches and impacted defensively as well with four tackles. He ran nearly 16km which demonstrates his capacity to run all day.

Blake Acres

I thought Blake was our best player. He had 20 disposals, managed to kick two goals and linked up our defence and midfield really well. He is a very difficult player to match up on given his height, strength and athleticism.

Eli Templeton

It was a bit of a feather in his cap because Eli got tagged on the weekend. In the first half he and his teammates were trying to find ways to release the tag. He sacrificed parts of his game to go to an opposition player but by the time the fourth term came around, Eli had worn his opponent down. It was a great challenge and we were pleased with the way he worked through it.

Tom Simpkin

Tommy was solid down back both in the contest and with his leadership. He reads the game very well and had a good day on Saturday again.

Ahmed Saad

Ahmed was up and about. He looked lively but it was just a shame that inaccurate kicking hurt him, booting three goals from seven scoring shots. He took his man up the ground and worked hard back. He was really hard to play on.

Cam Shenton

Cam was solid across half-back with 15 disposals and six tackles this week. He sees the game really well and he was especially good at taking the game on.

Paddy McCartin

Paddy didn’t kick a goal but he led his man up the ground and provided a really good option for our midfielders to kick to. He provided a contest and brought others into the game.

Darren Minchington

Darren won some contested ball and was good in the clearances. He, Saunders and Curren formed a pretty good trio in our midfield and Darren had a solid day without getting huge numbers.

Nathan Wright

Nathan used his legs and got the ball moving our way. He had about five bounces on two occasions and really took the game on from half-back. He is so courageous and again proved that on Saturday.

Sam Gilbert

The main thing was the Sam got through the game which he did, so that was a positive. He didn’t have massive stats but went back with the flight a couple of times and provided great leadership and vision for us.

Hugh Goddard

Hugh is really building his game and beating each opponent that comes to him. He loves the physical contact and wrestling with his direct opponent. He also used the ball well coming out of defence.

Tom Lee

Tom was excellent defensively and offensively on the weekend. He times his attack on the contest really well and often sets us up with his good foot skills from the back 50.

Jason Holmes

Jason had 20 hit outs and would have got a lot out of playing on Mark Jamar who was All-Australian a couple of years ago. He worked hard around the ground and also competed in the clinches.

Lewis Pierce

Lewis was competitive. It was a good lesson for him in windy conditions and up against Mark Jamar and Max Gawn, we were pleased that he had a crack.

DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE
Spencer White

Spencer had a quiet day but provided an option for us. He’s working hard and had five tackles.

Joe Baker-Thomas

Joe did some good things in the back half. He’s a work in progress and we just need him to get a bit more of the ball.

Brenton Payne

Brenton had 16 kicks playing across half-back. His ball use was pretty good and he looked to play on at every opportunity which was good to see.

Brodie Murdoch

Brodie played across half-back and had a really good game. He’s still finding his feet after a long layoff with a back injury but we were really pleased with his performance.
