ST KILDA players visited volunteer organisations across the bayside last week to recognise their contribution to the community as part of National Volunteer Week.

SEEK volunteer organisations, St Kilda charity partners and deserving not-for-profit service groups received a surprise visit and were rewarded with free tickets to the Saints game against West Coast in round eight, Dare Iced Coffee and some delicious cake from Monarch Cakes in Acland St.

The Bayside Toy Library was overwhelmed on Thursday when Jack Steven and Billy Longer stopped by to thank the 300 volunteer families, who collectively put in 52 hours a week to run the library.

"There was a real buzz in here today and if anything it makes people feel like someone in the community is noticing. It's very unexpected and that's probably the nicest aspect," Bayside Toy Library president, Meg Adem told SAINTS.com.au.

"The boys were genuinely interested which is great."

The players had some fun, sitting down for a spot of tea with children and playing with trains.

The library helps the community by re-using toys and helping to reduce waste.

"Often kids love to play with lots of toys and lose interest in them quickly and also quite a few of us are concerned about the amount of waste that there can be so we look at it from a sustainability perspective which is that it's great for the environment," Adem said.

"A lot people in the community can access toys that they might not have been able to purchase which encourages their kids' learning in different ways."

Among the organisations visited were St Kilda's charity partners Sacred Heart Mission and Blue Ribbon Foundation. As well as this, players dropped in to see SEEK volunteers organisations such as Hampton Life Saving Club, Coast Guards Victoria, Inner Wheel, Riding for the Disabled, Salvation Army, Hurlingham Kinder, Robert Connor Dawes fund, Hampton Street Traders Association, RAW Garden, BAYciss, Relay for Life, Victorian Dog Rescue and Rotary.

Thanks to the club's elite partner SEEK volunteer, this year the Saints have established a new "How I Want to Be" volunteer crew who assist in welcoming members and supporters into Etihad Stadium on game days.

Established in 1989, National Volunteer Week is the largest celebration of volunteers in Australia and highlights their important role in the community.

Last week the Saints said thanks to more than six million Australians who volunteer and the hundreds of volunteers who devote their time to the St Kilda Football Club.
