“This is our fourth year – we started from scratch, took us 18 months to build a team, get a license and we’re now on the world circuit.  There’s 18 teams and we’re number five in the world today,” Orica GreenEDGE’s founder and owner Gerry Ryan told SAINTS.com.au

“It’s a great event, all the professional teams take part.  Orica GreenEDGE has won it three times out of four with Simon Gerrans and he’s hoping to make it four.”

Gerry Ryan is a long-time sporting benefactor and passionate Saints member who has followed the club since he was a schoolboy.

A former Saints board member and president of Cycling Australia, Ryan has contributed significant funds to St Kilda’s high performance development over the years including equipment, activities and pre-season camps.

In 2008 the Santos Tour Down Under joined the prestigious UCI WorldTour and was the first event outside cycling's traditional home of Europe to do so.

The Santos Tour Down Under brings together the most prestigious teams and the best riders in the world, and Ryan said the event, held in Adelaide in January, is an opportunity not to be missed.

“You could be anywhere in Europe at a big bike race; the crowd,  the ambience.  This opportunity allows you to get close up to the riders, and meet the team.  If you’ve got a bike you can go for a ride around Adelaide while the festivities are on.”
