St Kilda and Hawthorn will battle for the annual Blue Ribbon Cup on Sunday.

The 17th annual Blue Ribbon Cup clash is played in memory of two Victorian Police officers, Sergeant Gary Silk, and Senior Constable Rodney Miller who were killed in the line of duty at Moorabbin in August 1998.

All players competing on Sunday will receive a commemorative medal and the Silk-Miller Memorial Medal will be presented to the player voted best on ground from each team by the opposing presidents. Senior Constable Rodney Miller’s son Jimmy, who was only weeks old when his father was killed, will present the Cup to the captain of the winning team at the end of the match.

As a mark of respect for the 150 plus Victoria Police officers who have been killed in the line of duty, players and on-field officials will wear reflective blue and white checkered armbands.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation’s charter is to provide new and improved emergency facilities in Victoria's public hospitals that are named in memory of fallen officers.
