THE good news keeps coming at St Kilda with the club today announcing defenders Dylan Roberton and Cameron Shenton have signed contract extensions.

Roberton has signed on until the end of 2017, while Shenton has signed a one-year deal tying him to the club until the end of 2016.

Roberton, who arrived at the club as a delisted free agent at the end of 2012, has played 37 games for the Saints after also playing 37 games for Fremantle (74 total).

The tall, running half-back had an immediate impact upon arrival at Linen House Centre, finishing 10th in the best and fairest in 2013 before ankle injuries disrupted his 2014 campaign.

The 23-year-old has recaptured his best form in 2015, becoming a mainstay across half-back and, with Josh Bruce, would currently be vying for most improved player.

Shenton arrived at the Saints in the 2012 rookie draft as a mature age selection from SANFL club Norwood.

He made his senior debut late in 2013 before adding to his tally with another 13 games in 2014. At the end of last season he was rewarded with a permanent upgrade to the senior list.

Shenton, 24, has become a regular in the senior team, playing all but two games to the mid-season break for a total of 23 senior games.

Coach Alan Richardson said securing Roberton and Shenton’s signatures was another step to building St Kilda’s future.

“Dylan and Cameron have continued the positive momentum around our players committing to the club’s future – they are confident that we are heading in the right direction and want to be part of that,” he said.

“This follows on from Jack Steven committing to a five-year deal at the start of the year and our Saints Future Fest campaign last year under which saw 19 of our young players put pen to paper.”

Richardson said the continued improvement of St Kilda’s exciting, young group of players had been the highlight of the 2015 season and that Roberton and Shenton were good examples of that.

“Both players have worked their way up to become regular, valuable parts of our defensive group and we are delighted to have them commit to us by signing contract extensions.”

Today’s announcement continues the raft of good news coming out of Linen House Centre including winning four games to the mid-season break, playing five new players this season (McCartin, Lonie, McKenzie, Sinclair and Membrey) and signing new corporate partners Dare Iced Coffee, SEEK and the Susan Day Group.
