NICK Riewoldt and Jack Lonie will not travel to Adelaide this weekend after both were ruled out today.

Sam Gilbert will also miss due to quad soreness.

Riewoldt has been given time off due to calf soreness, while Lonie has also been rested.

The St Kilda skipper has battled manfully through a slight calf strain since St Kilda played GWS in round 15, booting one goal in Maddie’s Match and three against Melbourne on Sunday.

"We all know that he went into the Maddie game against the Tigers a little bit banged up with respect to his calf," Richardson said.

"He was good for us last week as well, but got a knock in his other calf. There is just too much of a build up in terms of minor injury that might lead to a more substantial injury.

Despite the 32-year-old's battle with a variety of knocks in 2015, Richardson has not considered putting Riewoldt on ice.

"If we thought there would be long-term ramifications, then we would have that discussion, but we don't think that is the case," he said.

"He knows his body incredibly well and our doctors know it incredibly well. Their advice is that he just needs a break and that he will be really strong for the remainder of the season."

Lonie, who will turn 19 in two weeks, has been a revelation in 2015 after being taken with pick 41 in last year’s National Draft.

"That was always the plan for Lonie to have a spell," Richardson said.

"He's been really good for us but we like to give the first year players from a load point of view, a break so they don't end up with a stress injury."

The small forward has played 15 games, booted 11 goals and was nominated for the Rising Star Award after St Kilda’s round 14 demolition of Essendon.

Riewoldt, Lonie and Gilbert are expected to miss just one week.

St Kilda will name a 25-man squad for the game against Port Power on Thursday evening, before trimming it to 22 on Friday afternoon.
