MIDFIELDERS David Armitage and Jack Steven have capped off a stellar year by both polling double figure votes in last night’s Brownlow Medal count.

Steven shot out to a fast start, notching eight votes after five rounds, including two best on ground performances.

Armitage had three best on ground performances (Rounds 6, 9 and 14) and took his career tally to 33 votes.

The duo finished in equal 22nd place, with Nick Riewoldt the next best Saint in 54th.

Riewoldt has now polled 130 career votes, putting him second behind Robert Harvey for total Brownlow votes for a St Kilda player.

Last night, the skipper leapfrogged James Hird (125 votes), Stewart Loewe (126), Wayne Carey (127), Tony Lockett (128) and Lenny Hayes (129) into 41st on the all-time list of Brownlow vote winners.

Montagna’s match-winning goal and best on ground performance against Melbourne in round 11 yielded him three votes, with his other two votes coming against North Melbourne in round 20.

The 249-gamer has polled 96 career votes, one more than former Saints captain Nathan Burke.

Having not polled a vote in his 16 AFL games before this season, Josh Bruce registered four last night, with Jack Billings, Sean Dempster and Dylan Roberton all notching two votes each.

Before last night, Billings had polled one Brownlow vote, while Dempster had tallied two and Roberton zero.

Sam Gilbert, who re-invented himself as an athletic midfielder late in the year, earned a vote for his 21 disposal, two-goal effort against Geelong in round 21. The left-footer, who recently signed on until the end of 2017, has now polled ten votes in his career.

St Kilda polled 46 votes, ahead of Melbourne (42), Essendon (38), Gold Coast (37) and Carlton and Brisbane (35 votes each).

The Eagles polled the most votes of any side, racking up 97 votes, while the Western Bulldogs had 14 separate vote getters.

Armitage has a chat to eventual winner Nat Fyfe.
