Saints star David Armitage has continued the recent St Kilda flavour in AFL Media’s team of the week, earning the recognition following his outstanding performance in Saturday night’s 34-point win over Fremantle.

The 2015 Trevor Barker Award runner-up was instrumental in the Saints’ fourth win of the season, helping St Kilda’s final quarter resurgence against the Dockers.

Armitage laid a mind blowing 17 tackles at Etihad Stadium, breaking St Kilda’s record by two to eclipse Luke Ball’s tally of 15 set in 2004.

The mark was four more than he has ever previously recorded and the highest number since Jack Steven registered 14 against Greater Western Sydney last season.

The Queenslander fell two short of the all-time AFL record, which was recently equalled by Western Bulldogs midfielder Tom Liberatore.

Armitage, 27, also collected 28 disposals, 14 contested possessions, seven clearances and a goal, as well as acquiring eight votes from Alan Richardson and Ross Lyon – the most of any player.

AFL Media couldn’t find a spot for Armitage in their Round 10 midfield, slotting him on the interchange bench alongside royalty in Sydney’s Josh Kennedy and Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury, as well as Western Bulldogs gun Luke Dahlhaus.
