Inspired by the grass-roots Yarra Valley Pride Game, the Round 21 clash is an opportunity to raise awareness and end behaviours that make individuals feel uncomfortable to be themselves at the football.

Saints CEO Matt Finnis donned the rainbow Pride Game Scarf while asserting the importance of the game to make everyone feel welcome within the football community.

“Sadly, we know from research that many in the LGBTIQ community do not feel safe at sporting events and do not feel they can truly be themselves at sporting clubs,” Finnis said.

“We want the LGBTIQ community to feel welcome and safe at AFL games and free to be themselves.”

To celebrate Pride Game, St Kilda players have had the back of their match-day guernsey modified with a sublimated rainbow number representing the rainbow flag.

Supporters are able to purchase a 2016 home guernsey from the Saints Locker and choose the option to customise their purchase with the pride number. The pride numbers and heat-transfer facilities will also be available at the game for supporters looking to customise their own guernsey on the night.

Pride Scarf and Pride Beanie are available for pre-order to keep you warm while watching the Saints take on the Swans and will be also be available to purchase at the game!

Match-worn guernseys are currently available for bidding with all proceeds from the auction being donated to the Gay and Lesbian Foundation Australia (GALFA). The GALFA provides funds for charitable activities and organisations who work to the good and betterment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people and allied communities in Australia. Auctions will close on Wednesday 17 August.
