Former St Kilda midfielder Clint Jones has capped off a stellar return to his home state by finishing third in the WAFL’s best and fairest award – the Sandover Medal.

In his first season back in Perth since the Saints plucked him from the WAFL at the end of 2006, the 32-year-old polled 39 votes, three votes behind Fremantle-listed midfielder Matt de Boer and ten adrift of runaway winner Jye Bolton.

After finishing his career at the Saints at the end of 2014 with 149 games next to his name, including the 2009 and 2010 grand finals, Jones played for Sandringham in the VFL last season before heading back across the country to play for Perth.

Despite playing for South Fremantle – where he won two best and fairest’s – before being drafted by St Kilda, Jones signed with the Perth Demons at the end of last year where he averaged 34.2 disposals and 4.5 tackles across 20 appearances.

Two other recently delisted Saints – Sam Dunell and Ahmed Saad – also featured prominently at the recent J.J Liston Trophy night, following stellar seasons in the VFL at Williamstown and Coburg respectively.

Seagulls midfielder Dunell finished eighth in the VFL’s best and fairest award, and was also named in a forward pocket in the team of the year.

While Saad was not only named alongside Dunnell at full forward in the VFL’s best team, but also won the ‘Frosty’ Miller Medal for the leading goalkicker in the VFL, with 49 goals.

Former star livewire forwards Stephen Milne and Adam Schneider tasted premiership success on the weekend, helping Beaumaris win the VAFA Premier B flag at Trevor Barker Oval.

Schneider booted three goals in the big dance, while Milne finished the season as the leading goalkicker in the competition, booting 53 goals from 16 appearances.
