He may have only been at the club for less than three months, but former Collingwood vice-captain Nathan Brown has been thoroughly impressed by the spread of leadership at St Kilda.

The 28-year-old landed at Linen House Centre during last October’s trade period, along with Western Bulldogs midfielder Koby Stevens and Greater Western Sydney’s Jack Steele, following 130 games across 11 seasons at the Magpies.

Speaking on Melbourne radio station RSN on Friday morning, Brown said that the Saints possess a wide range of leaders, with the club well placed to replace champion forward Nick Riewoldt as captain.

“With ‘Rooey’ obviously handing over the captaincy to someone there’s just such a great spread of leadership and not just from the senior guys like my age it’s all the way down to the second and third-year players as well,” Brown told RSN on Friday.

“The list is now [even deeper] with a couple of new acquisitions over the trade period and drafting; the list runs deep.”

Halfway through his first pre-season in red, white and black, Brown said the Saints are focused on becoming a more consistent team in 2017 to propel themselves back into September for the first time since 2011.

“I know there’s a particular focus on what St Kilda’s best footy, is which is great, and what St Kilda’s worst footy is, which there’s still a big gap in between that,” Brown said.

“So we’re just need to find that consistency this year and we believe that will put us in good stead for finals.”
