Young St Kilda key forward Paddy McCartin says he is doing everything in his power to get back into the senior side after spending the last five weeks at Sandringham.

The 2014 No. 1 pick hasn’t played for the Saints since Round 3, but has kicked 18 goals in five VFL games to mount his case for another opportunity at AFL level.

McCartin led the Zebras to victory against Coburg at Piranha Park on Sunday, kicking 4.5 from 13 marks and 18 disposals, just two weeks after he slotted 7.3 against Collingwood.

The 21-year-old admits he has had to work on elements of his game in the reserves but is confident of returning to Alan Richardson’s team soon.

“I’m doing everything I can to get back in the side and hopefully that will be soon,” McCartin told Channel 9’s Footy Classified on Monday night.

“I’m pretty excited about what’s to come.

“I had to go back on the VFL and work on my game and I feel like I’ve done that to a pretty good level and strung some pretty good performances together.

“It’s very frustrating obviously, but that’s just the way it goes.”

Monday Wash-Up: Round 8 v Carlton

After winning three consecutive games, St Kilda hosts Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Saturday as they look to consolidate a spot inside the top eight.

With Jimmy Webster breaking his hand in the win over Carlton on Saturday, St Kilda will be forced to make at least one change.

And with Koby Stevens available after serving a one-game suspension, the Saints could make multiple changes ahead of the weekend.
