St Kilda star Nick Riewoldt will miss Saturday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs after suffering some bone bruising in his left knee in the loss to Sydney in Round 9.

Riewoldt, who hyperextended his right knee in an incident against Melbourne in Round 1, has endured a raft of issues across his decorated career with his ‘bad’ left knee.

Saints GM Football Performance Jamie Cox said the club wasn’t prepared to take any risks with the six-time Trevor Barker Award winner and expected him to miss only a week or two.

“Nick suffered a fresh knock to his old knee which has developed a bit of a bone bruise,” Cox told saints.com.au on Thursday afternoon.

“He did it in the loss to Sydney, pulled up stiff on Sunday so we’ve decided not to take any risks with him.

“He will definitely miss this weekend and is a chance to return straight after the bye, but it will just depend how it pulls up.”
