Form guide:

Sandringham are back on the winner’s list following last Sunday’s 6-point win over Werribee at Trevor Barker Oval, the Zebras’ first victory since round five. Tom Hickey, Nathan Freeman and Shane Savage were among the best against the Tigers and VFL coach Lindsay Gilbee will be hoping that trend continues against Footscray.

Footscray lost a nail biter by five points to Collingwood at Victoria Park last Sunday but the ninth-placed Dogs won’t be wanting a losing trend to continue. They boast plenty of AFL talent and strong VFL core, evidenced by the last time they met the Zebras.

Players to watch:

SANDRINGHAM

Tom Hickey

Dominant in the ruck against Werribee last week, the 26-year-old continues to place pressure on Billy Longer’s position in the AFL side. Hickey finished with 21 disposals, seven marks, 52 hit outs and a goal last Sunday, coming up against North Melbourne giant Brent Preuss. He’s been in good VFL form in the six games he’s played at Sandringham, averaging 14 disposals and 29 hit outs.

Nathan Freeman

The hard working midfielder continues to rack up the possessions as a key on-baller in the Sandringham side, averaging 20 disposals per game this year. Against Werribee last week he finished with a season high of 37 disposals and nine tackles. His pressure and grunt work against Footscray will again be pivotal.

FOOTSCRAY

Nick Jamieson

The hard-running wingman was one of the Dogs’ better performers in the loss to Collingwood, finishing with three goals, 15 disposals and six tackles. The VFL-listed Jamieson will be a key weapon at Trevor Barker Oval on Sunday, given his ability to run and hit the scoreboard.

Bailey Williams

The AFL-listed midfielder was solid in the VFL last week with 19 disposals and a goal, despite the narrow loss to the Magpies. In the absence of AFL call-ups for Clay Smith and Matthew Boyd, Williams will have a key midfield role to play.
