While chaos ensued at the other end of the ground, Nathan Brown was happy minding his own business last Saturday night.

As the Saints grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the first half, opening up an 82-point lead against Richmond, Brown’s opponent, Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt, couldn’t get near it.

Not that it bothered the Collingwood premiership full back.

“It’s a good feeling, especially when you’re playing full back – poor old Jack Riewoldt didn’t get much of a chance last week,” Brown said at a press conference at Linen House Centre.

“It’s something that we’ve acknowledged a performance like that, especially in the first half, has been building for a while now, particularly over the last month of footy.

“From my point of view, it’s pretty good to walk into the sheds at half-time 80 or so points up; it’s a good feeling.”

Brown, who arrived in Seaford as an unrestricted free agent last October, isn’t the only new face in St Kilda’s defence this season.

The 28-year-old has formed a lethal partnership with former Essendon swingman Jake Carlisle. And together they have helped transform the Saints’ back six.

“We get a blueprint and we just play our role; I think Jake and I do that, we just play our role for the team,” Brown said.

“Jake has found his feet really well; he’s fifteen games in now. He played his 100th last week and get his chance against his old club this week, which is fantastic.

“He’s been fantastic and it’s not only us two it’s the whole backline group that’s been pretty consistent this week.”
