St Kilda star David Armitage won’t play again this season due to the persistent groin issue that has plagued his year.

Armitage returned in the VFL three weeks ago following two bouts of groin surgery, but hasn’t been able to overcome continued soreness since.

The 29-year-old has only played two senior games in 2017, with his last appearance coming against Collingwood in Round 4.

St Kilda GM Football Performance Jamie Cox said Armitage has run out of time to return this season and will focus on rehabilitating his groin ahead of the start of the pre-season in November.

“Unfortunately for Dave he’s been fighting the clock to try and get himself healthy at the back end of the season,” Cox told saints.com.au on Tuesday afternoon.

“He looks to have lost that battle as well and is his season looks like it might be done.”

After playing less than 21 games once – he played 15 in 2014 – since establishing himself in the senior team in 2011, Armitage has endured a frustrating 2017.

The Queenslander will now focus his efforts on returning to full training during the pre-season.
