Sandringham has finished 2017 with a win in the final round of the VFL season, with a 15.12 (102) to 6.11 (47) final scoreline.

The 55-point win at Mars Stadium was the Zebras’ eighth of the season, finishing the year in strong fashion despite missing the finals for the first time in two years.

Lindsay Gilbee’s team brought their A-game with a six-goal opening term in a game where the visitors dominated the inside 50 count (61-39) to give their forwards opportunities.

A tighter second term where the Zebras were held goal less kept North Ballarat within range before the visitors came out firing in the second half.

Nine goals to the Roosters’ three in the final two quarters set up one of the Zebras’ best wins for the season, bringing curtains to Gilbee’s first year in charge at Beach Rd.

Standout Zebras

2017 St Kilda debutant Rowan Marshall impressed in his old surroundings at Mars Stadium, bagging five goals with 24 disposals and 11 marks against his former club.

The 21-year-old tall has been a shining light at Beach Rd and shaped as an imposing figure down in Ballarat.

Fellow forward Josh Battle chimed in with two majors while Nick O’Kearney and Ed Phillips finished with 34 and 31 disposals respectively to be among the best.
