When you’re not a player, coach, or even an AFL official, then the chances of securing a coveted AFL award are pretty slim.

But Jack Steven’s Dad Peter has defied the odds to claim AFL 360’s infamous Rascal of the Year award.

Created by Bulldogs champion Bob Murphy, who has since handed the responsibility to Jack Riewoldt, the Rascal of the Year awards cheeky or ‘rascalish’ behaviour in the footy world.

Caught on camera in the St Kilda rooms talking to welfare manager Tony Brown, Peter can be seen undoing his top shirt button less than 10 seconds after wife Jenny leans over to do it up.

But the moment captured by Fox Footy’s cameras isn’t a once off, Peter explained to Saints.com.au.

“It gets pretty hot in the rooms for some reason after a match, so I’m always trying to cool down,” Peter said with a laugh.

“Jenny thinks I’m trying to impersonate Dennis Lillie from the 70s so she’s always telling me to do it up.”

“My nickname has been ‘The Machine’ for a long time but the past few weeks I’ve been getting rascal from a few people.”

As the 2017 recipient, Steven will take home the Rascal of the Year perpetual trophy and two slabs of Cheeky Rascal Cider.

“I just have to keep them hidden from three sons or they won’t last long,” he said.

“I don’t like my chances of going back-to-back next year.”
