The feedback has come thick and fast for Jack Steele.

His new haircut might be better suited to playing football, but that doesn’t mean St Kilda supporters are happy that he trimmed his Hollywood locks.

“I’ve had a bit of bad feedback about that. Plenty, in fact,” Steele told the Inside St Kilda podcast this week ahead of AFLX.

“I just got sick of the long hair and decided that football is a lot easier without it, so I just cut it off and hopefully it helps my game somehow.”

While the midfielder’s decision to go short, back and sides has reduced his time in front of the mirror, Steele says it has opened more room for Jade Gresham and Josh Bruce to get front centre during the Saints’ recent promotional shoots.

“It is that time of year before games start when the photos happen and the broadcaster shoots,” he said.

“I suppose Jade Gresham was the one for mine who liked to get pretty for the camera.

“Josh Bruce likes to get the hair all nice like I used to, before I cut it all off and now I don’t need to tie it up anymore.”

After doing the same thing 12 months earlier, Steele’s old mate from Canberra, Logan Austin, followed his lead at the end of last season, departing Port Adelaide to reunite at the Saints last October.

“It’s been very good having him around,” he said.

“He’s just up the road from me in Hampton, so it’s easy to just pop up to his place if he’s bored or if I’m bored.

“When we have mates come down from Canberra we’ve got plenty of beds for them now.”
