Jack Steven sits atop of the 2018 Shadforth Financial Group AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award, alongside the best in the business.

Steven was one of only four players to receive the maximum 10 votes in Round 1, joining  Patrick Cripps (Carlton), Lance Franklin (Sydney Swans) and Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn).

The 27-year-old was given the nod from both Chris Fagan and Alan Richardson for his 34-possession, two-goal game.

After topping the disposal count at half-time, Steven ignited the Saints late in the third quarter with two electric goals.

Another Saint to impress was Blake Acres, who received seven votes, while Seb Ross (4) and Jack Billings (1) were others to get their 2018 tallies started.

Brisbane duo Stefan Martin (6) and Charlie Cameron (2) rounded out the votes from the Saturday afternoon clash at Etihad Stadium.

Mitchell’s 54 touches against the Magpies, Buddy’s eight majors against the Eagles and Cripps’ clearance dominance against the Tigers were other performances to register a maximum 10 votes with AFL coaches.

Seb Ross was the top Saint on the AFLCA standings at the end of 2017, finishing eighth behind Dunstin Martin.
