The Saints hit the hotspots of St Kilda on Tuesday night in a bid to raise much-needed funds for the Sacred Heart Mission’s Dine with Heart campaign.

So far, the football club has raised over $1,000 for the campaign.

Several St Kilda restaurants are participating in the fundraising drive, where a portion of their profits will go directly into providing meals for those in need.

The Sacred Heart Mission serves over 300 meals per day at a cost of approximately $4 each.

Players were distributed across three restaurants – Radio Mexico, St Kilda Burger Bar and 48h Pizza – where they worked over the grill, behind the bar and serving tables.

Diners in the St Kilda area were thrilled to discover their meals and drinks were being made, poured and served by Saints, and for the players, it was an enjoyable way to give back to the community in which the club was born.

“It makes you realise how much we take for granted,” St Kilda skipper Jarryn Geary said.

“Especially on a night like tonight, we’ve got a warm bed to go home to and fridge full of food, so it gives you a bit of perspective to think about people that have to go without that.”

“It’s about supporting people who really need it and that explains itself,” Dine with Heart Ambassador Jess Gerner told the Sacred Heart Mission.

“It’s easy to give money to something, or look at big causes in faraway countries, and that’s important, but it’s really important to look at what’s on your back doorstep and help the community.”

The Dine with Heart campaign is running at restaurants and bars around Melbourne until the end of May.
