The finest young football talent in the South East are set to embark on a journey of elite personal development after being selected in the St Kilda Football Club Next Generation Academy (NGA) Under-14 Program for 2018.

Boys and girls have been selected for the program, with participants being exposed to an elite football environment through top-level coaching, first-class facilities and expertise across health, fitness and personal development.

The program will involve four sessions across a four-week period at Linen House in Seaford, in preparation for a practice match against the Melbourne Academy at the same venue on Wednesday, October 3.

The St Kilda Next Generation Academy is split into two hubs, with the Frankston and District Junior Football League (FDJFL) providing the talent for the South Hub – linked to the Dandenong Stingrays – while the North Hub links the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) to the Sandringham Dragons.

Peter Freeman will coach the South Hub Boys team, with Jamie Pi taking on the mentoring role with the girls.

St Kilda FC Community Football and NGA Coordinator Sam Fox said the program was aimed at preparing young talent for an elite-level football journey.

“The players have been identified through junior talent programs and through their performances with the FDJFL representative teams at the AFL South East Regional Championships in early June,” Fox said.

“This will be their first taste of being exposed to a professional level of development. The aim is to prepare the group for V/Line Carnival selection next year and then for selection with the Dandenong Stingrays in 2020.

“The region has produced some great footballers over the years and we’re excited to play a role in developing the future stars of the game.”

The St Kilda Next Generation Academy provides a pathway for the 11 to 15 age group, with players then moving to the Dandenong Stingrays program from the age of 16.

The program is also designed to drive new markets and develop players from indigenous and multicultural backgrounds.
