St Kilda midfielder Jack Steven has capped off an outstanding season with an eighth-place finish in the 2018 Brownlow Medal.

Steven polled 18 votes in Monday night's count, a career-high for the boy from Lorne that keeps getting better with age.

Sitting as high as third on the night, he cemented his status as one of the competition's most consistent players, an impressive feat in what was a disappointing year for the Saints.

'Stuv' kicked off the year with best-on-ground honours against Brisbane, a dominant 34-disposal, two-goal performance a sign of things to come for him in 2018.

The blue-collar Saint would go on to poll in eight games throughout the season, claiming the three votes against Melbourne in Round 15, Carlton in Round 17 and North Melbourne in Round 23.

Seb Ross was St Kilda's next-best with six votes, while spearhead Tim Membrey polled four and Jack Billings added two of his own.
