Star St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross has thrown his weight behind the club’s decision to be playing a match in China for the next three years.

Ross said the playing group was excited to be travelling to one of the world’s biggest cities to take on the Power.

“We’re all really looking forward to it,” Ross said.

“It will be great for our young group to do something like this together, and share an experience that will be pretty unique.”

“You grow up dreaming of playing the game at the highest level, and to have the chance now to take Australian footy to China will be pretty surreal.”

“I know Jack Billings and Daniel McKenzie and a few staff are heading over to check things out next week, but the feedback from the Power guys is that the surface is one of the best they’ve ever played on.”

Ross said he was comfortable with the travel arrangements likely to be in place for the match.

The Saints v Power clash will take place on Sunday, 2 June and will be followed by the mid-season bye for both teams.

“Our high-performance guys will work through what’s best for us from a preparation point of view,” Ross said.

“We haven’t had much luck against the Power in Adelaide over the past few years, so hopefully this means we can avoid that match-up.”

Coach Alan Richardson was also supportive of the decision.

“These are the types of experiences that will really benefit our young group,” he said.

“This trip will only bring the guys closer together, and I know they will embrace every bit of it.”
