A hard-bodied midfielder, Armitage was St Kilda’s ninth pick in the 2006 AFL National Draft. After playing 28 games in his first four seasons, he established himself with a stellar 2011 and continued his speedy development last year, finishing ninth in the Saints best and fairest.

While Armitage spent more time in the midfield in 2012, he also managed to foray forward occasionally, kicking 17 goals in 21 games.

The 24 year-old is a progressing at a rapid rate, and will be committed to leading the younger brigade of Saints midfielders in 2013 that complement the likes of Hayes, Dal Santo and Montagna.

David Armitage was drafted by the Saints from Queensland with pick nine in the 2006 AFL National Draft.

He grew up in the Rugby League stronghold of Mackay in the far-north, where he played for Morningside in an AFLQ grand final as a 17-year-old.

The midfielder debuted for St Kilda in Round 8, 2007 against Hawthorn. The following year David was a member of the Saints side that won the 2008 NAB Cup against Adelaide, recording the Club’s third preseason cup win.

As a youngster, David played junior footy with and against future Saints teammate Sam Gilbert.

Last year David Armitage re-signed with the Saints, celebrating his 50th game in the season-ending elimination final loss to Sydney Swans.

2011 was his most consistent season, playing 22 games and a more prominent midfield role due to team injuries.

David is an exciting player with great pace and ball winning ability. He brought fantastic pressure and intensity to the side in 2011 averaging 4.5 tackles per game and possesses the ability to push forward and kick a goal.

He is currently doing a cadetship in financial advising.
