Hayes is renowned as one of the competitions best inside midfielders and has been a champion of the St Kilda Football Club in his decorated 13 years.

In addition to his great skills and impact, Hayes boasts fantastic leadership skills and during the 2012 season will hold a Leadership mentoring role for the entire playing group.

2011 was a forgettable year for the 32-year-old who tragically injured his knee in Round 2, ending his season.

Lenny made his comeback from injury during the Club’s Round 1 NAB Cup game against the Sydney Swans at Etihad Stadium, and subsequently featured in all of St Kilda’s pre-season games.

However, hearts sank momentarily when he was knocked out during the Round 4 game against Collingwood at Visy Park.

Hayes grew up in suburban Sydney and in 1998, was a standout player for NSW/ACT in the representative TAC Cup.

Lenny was selected by St Kilda with the first pick in the 1998 AFL Draft, making his debut the following year and earning an AFL Rising Star nomination in the final round of the season.

Entering his 14th AFL Season as one of the most widely respected players in the game, Lenny will bring back invaluable leadership and competitiveness to the St Kilda midfield.
