The St Kilda Football Club has finalised its playing list ahead of the 2010 season.
All new players have been presented with their first Saints guernsey number while some familiar faces have changed their digits.
19-year old Jack Steven has been given the number 3 guernsey, previously worn by Brownlow Medalist and premiership player Ross Smith and triple Best & Fairest winner Nathan Burke. Steven was drafted by the Saints from the Geelong Falcons in 2007 with selection 42 overall and spent his first years at the Club wearing number 34 which also meant sharing a corner of the locker room with St Kilda great, Robert Harvey.
Hard working midfielder Clint Jones has been handed the honour of wearing number 4 from 2010. This year, Jones has established himself as one of the AFL’s most effective ‘run with’ players, being able to lock down key opponents while also showing his potency in attack. The famous number 4 has previously been worn by premiership captain, Darrell Baldock and shortly after, Barry Breen. It has also been worn in more recent times by Tony Lockett and Andrew Thompson.
Zac Dawson joined the Saints at the end of 2008 and immediately seized his chance in the heart of defence. The 23-year old missed just one game in 2009 and quickly developed into a fan favourite. After wearing number 43 in his debut year with St Kilda, Dawson has been presented with the number 6 guernsey previously worn by Hall of Fame inductee and stalwart defender Bob Murray, as well as Vic Cumberland and Mark Greene.
Jarryn Geary debuted for the Saints in 2008 wearing number 42 and followed up with 15 games including a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination in 2009. He has earned the privilege of wearing the number 14 guernsey from 2010 onward which was previously worn by Roy Cazaly, Bruce Phillips, Jim O’Dea and more recently, Luke Ball.
Andrew Lovett will wear the number 9 previously worn by Fraser Gehrig and fellow trade week recruit Brett Peake will don number 30.
St Kilda’s 2009 draftees have been handed their first numbers which are: Nick Winmar (17), Adam Pattison (34), Jesse Smith (31), Will Johnson (38), Mark Hutchings (43), Daniel Archer (42), Jarryd Allen (50), Leigh Fisher (37) and Tommy Walsh (36).
