St Kilda has received a big boost to its playing ranks with Zak Jones and Rowan Marshall returning to face the undefeated Melbourne.

Jones will play his first game for the club this season after taking personal leave at the start of March, but has featured strongly at VFL level in his two appearances against Gold Coast and Frankston.

Marshall, meanwhile, trained well during Thursday's main session after a corked thigh from the previous fortnight forced him out of the line-up for Round 7.

The returning duo replace Tom Campbell (omitted), Marcus Windhager (omitted) and last week's unused medical sub Jarrod Lienert.

Windhager and Campbell have been selected as emergencies alongside Darragh Joyce and Ryan Byrnes, who were both among Sandringham's best last Sunday.

Jack Billings will play another week for the Zebras after making his return from a hamstring injury last week, while Hunter Clark will return after injuring his shoulder in the AAMI Community Series.

St Kilda will lock horns with Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday 8 May, beginning at 1:10pm.

IN: Jones, Marshall
OUT: Campbell (omitted), Lienert (omitted), Windhager (omitted)
