From extreme disappointment to a sense of elation. It was a week on contrasting emotions for VFLW star Caitlin Greiser.

The key forward finished goalless against Collingwood in the Saints’ qualifying final loss, failing to capitalise on an opportunity late in the game.

But in a sign of her immense character, Greiser hit back with a starring role in Saturday’s semi-final win over Melbourne Uni.

The 22-year-old bagged four of her team’s 10 goals in the 17-point win, but it was her celebration after she kicked her fourth from a long range that said it all.

Embracing teammates with a huge grin, it was the moment last week’s disappointment was officially buried.

Head coach Peta Searle said this was a sign of things to come for the forward.

“She was pretty important in the win,” she said.

“As I have said many times, Caitlin has some attributes that is going to make her a really special player.

“She has a long way to go but if she keeps developing, she will be a very hard match-up in the AFLW.”

Although Greiser turned the game on its head, there were many other star performers, particularly in the midfield.

The experienced Cat Philips (15 disposals, one goal) was influential, while Emma Mackie (20 disposals) also played a crucial role.

Searle said it was an all-round strong performance from the group.

“They all played well and at different times,” she said.

“Cat (Philips) was really instrumental especially in the first half.

“Emma Mackie was pretty solid all day.”

“They all played their roles and that's why it worked this week.”
