It’ll be do or die for the Southern Saints when they take on Collingwood in the preliminary final this Sunday at Adcon Stadium.

The Saints will be out for redemption after losing to the Pies by 15 points just two weeks earlier in the first round of the VFLW finals.

After falling in agonizingly short in the qualifying ginal, the response was empathic in Saturday’s semi final.

VESELY A RISING STAR: Young Saint claims Debbie Lee Medal at VFLW Awards

A four-quarter performance and contributions from several key Saints resulted in a 17-point win over Melbourne University.

In contrast, Collingwood suffered their first loss in this finals series on Saturday, going down to the Western Bulldogs by 12 points.

The victory saw the Dogs progress straight through to the Grand Final.

Key focuses for the Saints

Last time the two teams, met it was a low-scoring affair with the Saints scoring just one goal for the match.

They certainly overcame this struggle in their semi-final clash, scoring 10 majors, with Caitlin Greiser claiming four.

Greiser, who this week was named in the VFLW Team of the Year, has now kicked 21 goals for the season and will be a real target going forward for the Saints.

Tilly Lucas-Rodd will be pivotal in defence.

VFLW Team of the Year member Tilly Lucas-Rodd has been a powerhouse in the backline for the Saints, collecting 24 disposals and taking four intercept marks the last time the two teams met.

The Saints will also welcome the return of Sammie Johnson who missed last weekend’s semi-final clash.

Key focuses for the Magpies

Jamie Lambert was the difference in the qualifying final, kicking all 3 of the Pies' majors and picking up 23 disposals.

Midfielder Britt Bonnici was also damaging in the clash, collecting 31 disposals (24 kicks) allowing the Pies to surge the ball forward.

Stacey Livingston was also influential in defence, keeping a number of the Saints' key forwards quiet while collecting 12 disposals and four intercept marks herself.

Jamie Lambert has been a powerhouse for the Magpies in Season 2019.
