Indigenous Round
This week we celebrate Indigenous Round and we also celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Nicky Winmar raising his guernsey and standing strong in his culture. Winmar gave us an unforgettable symbol of determination and pride. Today the AFL Indigenous Round is a celebration of our country's Indigenous culture and players that have shaped Australia's Game. A game that unites us all, players and fans, standing strong and proud for the past, present and future generations
Keep an eye on the big screen during the game for a video on when Nicky Winmar visited the Club earlier in the week. We will also have students from Mahogany Rise Primary School in Frankston North joining us in our guard of honour as the players run onto the ground. Mahogany Rise Primary School has one of the highest percentages of indigenous students in Frankston.

Soldier On
The St Kilda Football Club has formed a new charity partnership with Solider On.
Soldier On is about Australians coming together to show their support for our physically and psychologically wounded; we will always have their backs. They work to enhance recovery, inspire communities and empower Australia’s wounded servicemen and women, giving those who have served our country the dignity they deserve and the chance to do and be whatever they choose.
It is a partnership that the entire club - from the playing group to our staff and board - have embraced.
An important element of the partnership is to recognise a wounded ambassador at each game. Tonight’s ambassador is Sergeant David Gillard. David has been a member of the Royal Australian Air Force for 23 years, joining their ranks in 1981. After discharging in 1993, he returned to the Air Force in 2002 and has travelled extensively as a member of the RAAF, including a deployment to Iraq in 2004.
He says the job saw him based in the hot and sweaty Northern Territory one moment, and off to minus thirty degrees in Alaska the next.
While deployed in Iraq, Sergeant Gillard witnessed some of the horrific realities of war, which have left a lasting impression on the 49 year old.
Officially diagnosed with PTSD this year, David is now taking part in a rehabilitation program three days a week. He says the program is helping him to develop the skills to cope with anxiety and aggression as a result of his PTSD.
Additional to his mental wounds, David has also had a knee and two ankle reconstructions, as well as injuries to his back. As he gets older, he says, it gets more difficult to ignore the wounds sustained in service.
He hopes to continue serving in the Australian Defence Force for as long as he is able.
