Georgia Patrikios and Hannah Priest have each been selected in the 2021 AFLW Team of the Year following terrific second seasons at the elite level.

Priest, who co-captained the side for the first time this season, was a reliable force across St Kilda's defensive half, guiding her side out of danger on numerous occasions through her clean use and level head under pressure.

The 28-year-old topped the Saints' intercepts (54) and rebound-50s counts by season's end to complement her healthy 13-disposal average.

Patrikios, meanwhile, enjoyed a glistening follow-up to her Best & Fairest-winning campaign.

The All-Australian nominee caught the eye through her proficient ball-winning skills and class through congestion, leading St Kilda's midfield against far more seasoned opposition line-ups.

Patrikios finished the year on top of the pile for her side's clearances, metres gained and disposals numbers, capping off the year with a brilliant 30-possession outing against West Coast.

Similar to last year's selection process, the bulk of the AFLW Team of the Year is made up of those who received the most nominations for the AFLW Team of the Week.

Patrikios – named on the field as a starting midfielder – was selected in the AFLW Team of the Week five times this season, while Priest – selected on the interchange – got the nod on three occasions.

The 2021 AFLW Team of the Year consists of six defensive and six forward positions (one of each on the bench), eight midfield roles (three on the bench) and one ruck.
