In round 15 Riewoldt debuts in Malcolm Blight's last game as Saints coach. The 18-year-old has three disposals and kicks one behind in a 97-point loss to Adelaide at Docklands.

 

August 2001
In his fifth AFL match, Riewoldt boots his first AFL goal. He finishes with two for the game but St Kilda loses by 87 points to Sydney.

 

September 2001
In the final round of the season Riewoldt plays in his first win for St Kilda. Despite Hawthorn leading at three-quarter-time, the Saints boot four goals to two in the final quarter to win by two points.

Riewoldt plays in his first of five AFL draws, a thrilling match against Sydney at Docklands.

 

August 2002
He boots six goals against Melbourne at Docklands in round 22. Previously Riewoldt had never kicked more than three in an AFL game. St Kilda finishes 15th on the AFL ladder, two games clear of Carlton.

 

September 2002
In his second season, Riewoldt is awarded the AFL Rising Star award.

 

October 2002
After just 28 league games, Riewoldt wins his first Trevor Barker Medal. He plays every match for the season and kicks 21 goals. Most of the first half of the year is spent at centre-half-back, before moving forward in the last ten games.

 

March 2004
Riewoldt plays in St Kilda's pre-season premiership victory.

 

July 2004
In round 15, Riewoldt boots nine of St Kilda's 13 goals against Melbourne at the MCG. The Demons win by 57 points, but Riewoldt dominates across half forward.

 

August 2004
St Kilda finishes third on the AFL ladder, winning its first ten games before losing six of the next 12. Riewoldt is rewarded for his outstanding season with the AFL Players Association Most Valuable Player Award.

 

September 2004
Nick Riewoldt plays in his first finals match, an 80-point defeat to Brisbane at the Gabba. Despite the heavy loss, he boots three goals.

 

September 2004
After earning a second chance, St Kilda defeats Sydney in the semi-final before narrowly losing to eventual premiers Port Adelaide in the preliminary final. Riewoldt finishes the season with an AFL record 256 marks and boots 67 goals.

 

October 2004
The accolades continue to roll in with Riewoldt winning his second best and fairest award in three years. He is also rewarded for his outstanding season with a selection in the All-Australian team as a half-forward-flanker.

Riewoldt is named captain of St Kilda Football Club as part of Grant Thomas' captaincy rotation policy

 

September 2005
After breaking his collarbone twice during the home and away season, Riewoldt is part of St Kilda's second consecutive preliminary final defeat.

 

May 2006
Riewoldt boots two goals in his 100th AFL game, a 17-point victory against North Melbourne at Docklands.

 

September 2006
After finishing sixth with 14 wins and eight losses, St Kilda loses to Melbourne in the elimination final at the MCG. Riewoldt collects 20 disposals and kicks two goals but it isn't enough as the Saints lose by 18 points.

 

October 2006
Riewoldt wins his third Trevor Barker Medal, emulating a handful of St Kilda greats such as Nathan Burke and Darrel Baldock. He is also selected on the half-forward flank in the All-Australian team.

 

February 2007
Riewoldt is appointed co-captain of the St Kilda Football Club, alongside Lenny Hayes and Luke Ball.

 

October 2007
Riewoldt is rewarded for yet another excellent season in which he averaged 18.1 disposals per game and booted 42 goals with his fourth best and fairest.

 

March 2008
After being appointed St Kilda's sole captain, Riewoldt plays a leading role in the Saints pre-season premiership.

In round 17 Riewoldt plays his 150th AFL game, a 17-point loss to West Coast at Subiaco. He performs admirably, booting five majors

After enjoying another consistent year, Riewoldt is selected at centre-half-forward in the All-Australian team.

Riewoldt plays in his third unsuccessful preliminary final, booting three goals in a 54-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG.

Riewoldt stars in St Kilda's preliminary final victory over the Western Bulldogs at the MCG. He takes a career-best seven contested marks and boots four goals in the seven-point victory.

Despite leading at every change, Geelong runs over the top of St Kilda in the last quarter of the Grand Final.

 

October 2009
Riewoldt's 78-goal season is rewarded with his selection as captain of the All-Australian team. He also wins a record fifth Trevor Barker award to cap off a fantastic year.

During St Kilda's round three victory over Collingwood, Riewoldt tears his hamstring and was out of action for three months.

Riewoldt boots two goals in the Saints drawn Grand Final with Collingwood.

He is held goalless in the replay which St Kilda lost by 56 points.

In round three, Essendon defeats St Kilda by 52 points in Riewoldt's 200th AFL game.

Riewoldt plays in his 12th final in four seasons, an elimination final loss to Sydney which is also Ross Lyon's last game as St Kilda's coach.
